AERODROME PROSPECTS

SUB-COMMITTEES MEET

f BOROUGH AND COUNTY INTERESTS

At a meeting of the sub-commit-tees appointed by the Borough and County Councils to go into the question of establishing a district aerodrome or landing the I own Clerk Mr D. V. Saunders, produced a substantial amount of material which lie had obtained since the last meeting from the Government and private sources.

The question of discovering exactly what was the Government's policy with regard to the future of aviation in this country occupied the meeting for some time, and it was decided to maintain Whakatane's claims at Wellington and to keep the matter steadily before the authorities. Mr Les Lux ton mentioned the hundreds of acres of waste land on the sandhill area at the hack of Piripai north of the town, and contended that there was an area admirably suited to the purpose which if levelled and consolidated, would save the utilisation of productive land on the plains. The committee decided to instruct the Borough Foreman-Engineer and the County Engineer to make a thorough investigation of the property mentioned, which is mainly composed of Native leases and report back to a later meeting.
