i ' 9 The monthly meeting of the Wo--1 men's Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on September 1, Mrs r Crozier presiding over a good attendance of members. The meeting * opened with a hymn, the Aspira--3 Hons following. The thought for the 1 day "Count time from Spring to Spring it i.s better to reckon the fear by Blossom and Blight." J The minutes of the previous meet- "" ing were read and confirmed. Mrs Cantrell and Mrs N» Mat- > thews were chosen as delegates' to b attend the Council Meeting to be « held at YVaimana this month. Mrs Hepburn Snr. kindly offered to make and donate the cake for the birthday next month. ' One new member was enrolled— Mrs S. Armstrong. Business for the afternoon being completed Mrs Rushbrook gave a talk on Johann Strauss, The Glee Circle sang one of his compositions, Tales from Vienna Woods and was enjoyed by all. Mrs Murphy gave a reading on the growing of water lillie». i The Roll Call was well responded , to and caused much laughter. A wall competition was won by Hrs J. King J nr. Members were remind-* ed that the Gardening Circle's next meeting was to be held at Mrs Fennell's home. Afternoon tea was then served. Competitions for the day were as follows: (A) Three plain scones, Mrs Carter 1; Mrs Hannah 2. (B) Gentleman's buttonhole Mrs Zinsli 1; Mrs Hannah 2. (C) One ' Mrs. Fennell 1! Mrs Hannah 2. A collection was taken up for the J Lepers and was well responded to. The Flower Show was a very ( bright display each section being well entered. Collection of six Narcissi: Mrs Guest 1; Mrs Stubbs. Daffodils: Mrs Hanna 1; Mrs Guest 2; Mrs: Kerr 3. J Anemonies: Mrs Petty 1; Mrs Fennell 2: Mrs. Stewart 3. Ranunculiis: Mrs Fennell 1; Mrs Stewart 2. Stocks: Mrs Hanna 1. ' Nemesias,: Mrs Uodds 1: Mrs Com* er 2; Mrs Stewart 3. Iceland Poppies: Mrs Sims 1; Airs Murphy 2: Mrs Fennell 3. Six Hen Eggs: Mrs Kerr 1; Mrs Petty 2. GARDENING CIRCLE The Gardening Circle held its meeting on August 21 at Mrs Mur.i phy's residence. Mrs Fenncll presided. Apologies were received from Mesdames. Rowan ) Cairns, Crozier and Sisam. The reading on perrenials and insects were read by the members. Everyone then adjourned; to the vegetable plot whers Mrs Fennell demonstrated the planting ol ! peas. Ihe Koll Call "How to keep the birds off peas" was well responded to. Afternoon tea was then served,. Competition results: Three Jonquils: Mrs Murphy; Three Leeks: Mrs Hannah.
