EMPLOYEES COMPLAINT
Sir f —l should like to bring .to the notice oi' the general public the manner in which one oi' the largest linns in the district are treating Returned Soldiers of this war. 1 was employed by the Whakatane Paper ?>lills Ltd, 011 contract cutting at and after giving fatislaction was put oil' with another returned soldier, the reason being given that they Avished to reduce the amount of cut timber. Ihe point 1 wish to stress is that a gang of ,'3O men (> of them Dalmatians on the same work were kept on in prelerence to myself and another returned man. I am a married man with four children and consider that by my dismissal I am being penalised and preference given to men who have not attempted to do any service during the war. Surely returned soldiers are not all going to be treated in tlii-s manner by this firm, as it is well known, that there are many employed by them that have not given one day's service and have been held on appeal during the "war period. Yours etc. J. braithwaite.
