Those Good Old Days!
A scrap of a July 1905, newspaper found recently in a house in contained only one legible which recorded the conviction of an Orpington man for shooting at passing motorists ! Broadcasting Finances Radio licence fees collected last year amounted to £435 813, according to the annual report of the National Broadcasting Service which was presented in the House of Representatives. {Receipts* from sales and •advertising in the New Zealand Listener were £39,625 and revenue by way of interest amounted to £21 ? 695. The report says that £170 r 000 was invested during the year to provide for future development, and to overtake .arrears of construction and equipment which had been held up because of war cohditions? making a total of now invested for this purpose. Not Petral ? Stolen Aware that the radiator of their car was leaking two well known YVaipuku residents who attended the annual meeting of the Stratford ! Racing Club ? took the precaution of taking a supply of water with! them, j This was put in a petrol tin which \ was placed in the back of the car. j Their annoyance when they entered the car some hours later to iind j the container still in. the car completely empty was tempered by the knowledge that the person who had apparently helped himself would not be pleased either. The motorists were faced with the problem of ob-> taining more water at midnight, but just then, the fire siren sounded the (ire station was opened and they were able to obtain water while the brigade was answering the call.
