GAY EDGECUMBE GATHERING DRUID'S LODGE FUNCTION < Edgccumbe Hall was the scene of one of the most successful dances last Tuesday night when the Druids Lodge welcomed five members who recently returned from Active Service. Flags of the Allied Nations occupied a prominent place in a hall massed with greenery and bowls of spring flowers while streamers and other decorations added to the gala note. Most noteworthy was the coloured lighting effect for which Mr Ray Burgess was responsible j and dancers were unanimous in their praise of its carnival arrangement. The Premier Band played in •- tireless fashion to a very full programme and Master of Ceremonies P.W.P. Bro, H. Carter exercised masterly control of the floor. The Grand March was led by District President Bro. J. J. H. Gattsche all past and present officers wearing full regalia. Following the supper interval P.W.P. Bro. J. M.ullins j Secretary of the Edgecumbe in a stirring speech warmly welcomed Sgt. F. R. Snelling } Cpls, H. P. Sanders, J. A. Sanders J. W. Sanders and >9 Pte. J. H. Hunt and made to each on behalf of the Lodge it a presentation. Sgt. Snelling replied suitably. Monte Carlo winners were Miss J. Fowe.ll and Mr Ivan Baldock; Lucky Spot ? Miss Betsy Dawson and Mr Ron Snelling; Novelty Dance Miss Heather Bell and Mr K. Croz' ier. Dancing concluded at 1.30 a.m. when Auld Lang Syne concluded one of the happiest functions for a very long time.
