NEW SUGAR-OF-MILK FACTORY
SECOND LARGEST IN WORLD Preparatory work commenced last week on the £150,000 sugar of milk factory which is being erected at Kapuni by Dairy Products Edendalc. The main factory block } the second largest unit of its kind in the world will measure 122 ft. by 140ft m> and will be constructed on 13 acres. The factory will require about 40 to 50 men, 20 of whom will work on the actual building which the proprietor company hopes to have, completed in 12 mouths. When completed the factory will use 10 5 000,000 gallons of whey a year from surrounding Joll dairy factories consume 30 tons of coal a day ? produce 640 'k.w.-a, of power a day and take in 50 000 gallons of water an hoar. The product sugar of milk, or lactose, has a world wide demand as a feed for the penicillin-produc-ing mould.
