AWAKERI BRANCH MEETS

A mos.t enjoyable meeting of the Awakeri branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Awakeri Hall on August 21 when Mrs Haultain presided over a large, attendance. The meeting opened with the reading of the creed.

The next meeting on September 18 is to take the form of an oldfashioned Social Evening and members of the Farmers' Union ami their wives are to be invited.

Miss Pattie, District Dental Nurse will • also be invited to attend the Social Evening when .she av'ill have the opportunity of meeting some of the parents.

Members were urged to attend a meeting to discuss the amalgamation of the Women's Division and the Women's Institute which is to be held in Whakatane shortly. There was some discussion on this subject.

Mrs Brizzle gave a most interesting and comprehensive report on the Dominion Conference held in Wellington in July ? when she was one of our delegates.

Members brought oranges and lemons and others cases, and as a result six cases of fruit were packed for the Division Rest Homes and the staff of the Head Office in Wellington. As two of the Rest Homes are in the South Island citrus fruits are always most welcome. •

The monthly competition results were as follows-:—Be* (lower: Mrs E. C. Haultain 1; Mrs Allan 2: Mrs R. Jensen ;{. Rest fruit; Mrs Barr 1; Mrs E. A. Haultain 2; Mrs E. C. Haultain 11. Best vegetable: Mrs McKeiizie 1; Mrs H. Jensen '1; Mrs E. C. Haultain :i.

The meeting crosed with the singing of the National Anthem.
