WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB WEEKEND PLAY Unfortunately- the weather broke about one o'clock on Saturday and play had to be abandoned even though one or two pairs had started. After an hour and a half's heavy rain it cleared up 5 and most players took advantage of the opportunity to play a few holes. Sunday Match On Sunday a team from the Rotorua Golf- Club visited Whakatane for a challenge match and a most enjoyable day was spent. Local knowledge was no doubt of considerable assistance to the Whakatane representations and the match resulted in a win for Whakatane by 11 games to 9 Avith 4 finishing all square:, A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies for their elforts in the. commissariat department which did much to make the day a success. The Rotorua Club have asked for a return match to be played in Rotorua and this will no doubt be arranged before the end of the season. On Sunday the final of the Reynold's Cup was also played the winner proving to be J. Denbam who defeated Dr. Dawson. Tomorrow's Draw The draw for last Saturday will stand for tomorrow when the first qualifying round for the championships; will be played. Returned Soldiers

The. visit by the returned soldiers from the Rotorua Hospital which was arranged for a fortnight ago Avill now take place this weekend. Members are asked to do all they can to make the visit enjoyable for the guests. LADIES' GOLF Owing to bad weather conditions last weekend all competitions were cancelled. The first qualifying round of the championships together with the August Medal will be played on Saturday 25th instant.
