FIRE AT MATATA

OLD WOODEN BUILDING

DESTROYED

A fire 'which occurred early one morning last week at Matata entirely destroyed an old wooden combined .shop and duelling tbe property of Mr T. ParkinsJon, of Rotorua.

Tile lire was first noticed by Mr Gardener manager of Wallace 'Supplies who roused residents in an endeavour to fight the blaze. A bucket brigade was formed but the battle was a losing one and morning found the building razed to the ground. The premises of Wallace Supplies, which were situated next door, had a lucky escape. It is understood that the building was insured but figures are unavailable.
