ENGLAND'S HEIR-APPARANT
A little over one hundred years ago the young and beautiful Princess Victoria., at the age of eighteen received the momentous tidings that, by the death of her uncle, she had become queen of the greatest empire on earth. Today her great grand-daugh ter, almost at the same age is heir-apparent to a still greater empire than Victoria knew. The beautiful and kindly Princess Elizabeth, has with he?* sister become as popular a figure as her own revered parents Carefully brought up she had had the distinct advantage of the high example of her father and the guiding wisdom and graciousness of her mother. She has cheerfully shared with the rest, of the Royal family the rigid austerity which the King ordered should be the daily portion of the entire household staff at Buckingham Palace, and in this way has learned to endure the war privations in common with the rest of the -British people Her outlook is markedly democratic, and she has already shouldered responsibilities which would apall the young girl of her age. Her public duties have been carried out with a thoroughness and poise which have amazed her audiences, and she has never once shown any trace of consciousness regarding her exaulted position. She is typically English and faces the future bravely and fearlessly. What the coming years hold in store for this youna; woman we cannot say, but of one thing we may be certain, whatever eventuates;, it will be met calmly and quietly as far as Princess Elizabeth is concerned. The destiny of Royal Hpuse of England will be in young but capable hands.
