WAIMANA-NUKUHOU ENJOYABLE BIRTHDAY GATHEIV TNG The August meeting of tlie Wai-mana-Nukuhiou Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall recently. The attendance of members and visitors from near Institutes was verj- good. Mrs Wylde opened ~ the proceedings with the Motto lor the. month "Sympathy is thie. key that fits the lock of any heart," and also welcomed all and hoped the assembly would enjoy the birthdayprogramme. The singing of the W.I. song and the Ode to Friendship followed. Correspondence was dealt with in which was an appeal to Insti r
tutes for two garments for Polish children who are guests of the New Zealand Government at Pahiatua. It was left to thie committee to arrange for same. During the. proceedings six telegrams were received from members who have left the district and also an Invalid member in the Whakatane hospital and from Sister Institutes. All convoyed birthday greetings and wished the Institute every success in the future. Mrs N, Clark offered to write to Mrs S. Clark
and Mrs Wylde to write to Mrs John Addison who are absent from the district.
Invitations were received to attend tlie OpotiUi and Waiotahi Women's Institute birthdays and it is hoped a substantial number of members Avill be able to attend each. This concluded the business for the day and the entertainment pari of the programme followed. A jig-saw puzzle competition arranged by Mrs Mortenson, was won by Mrs- Rust > Mrs Mrs Henderson- Miss jVgaire Mitchell gave two entitled "The Flag of the Bulldog"
and "Success" both being well received. Greatlj r appreciated vocal items were given by Mrs Tankard, Mrs T. Burke and Miss Colleen Burke and encores called lor. A hiumorous monologue "Packing" was well presented by Mrs R. Looney and a "Sketch" acted by members of the St. John's Nursing Division created great amusement, the title being "A Maternity Hospital."
A round of "Housee" was won by Mrs' Luck and Mrs 801 l with Mrs Woolfield and Mrs. Turner being placed second. The lucky cup at afternoon tea was held by Mrs Bull and the lucky seat occupied by Mrs M. King. Guessing the weight, of the birthday I cake which was donated by Mrs was won by Mrs 17.I 7 . Savage. A most appetising afternoon tea was served by the the beautifully iced cake taking pride of . place. The meeting came to a close -with
Mrs Wyl.de thanking all Avho had arranged and helped with the programme the a Iter noon etc. The singing of the National Anthem closed thie function,
