OHOPE GRANT
HUNDRED POUNDS FROM COUNTY GREATER BOROUGH ASSISTANCE When the annual request from the Ohope Domain Board for a donation towards its funds was. received by the County Council last Tuesday, councillors ventured the same opinion as was voiced last year—that the Borough Council should be prepared to increase its allocation (£25) for the development of the beach. Cr Cawte pointed out that in the past the County had paid £100 rnnually to the Board, though it had to be admitted that the resort being adjacent the town was used to a far greater extent by town residents. Ohope was a much greater asset to the Borough than to the County. Cr Hunter suggested a £ for £ donation with whatever sum the Borough made availale. "Why can't Ohope residents help themselves a bit," aswed Cr Cawte who went to illustrate how the people of Matata had raised over £100 in order to beautify their foreshore. Cr Lux ton pointed out that it was the Domain Board's place to approach the Borough, not the Councils. If the grant was not increased at the Board's request, then it might be permissible for the Council to approach the Borough but not before. v Cr McGougan: I expect the Borough Council has its worries as well as we have. • The Council agreed to renew its grant requesting the Board to state the amount of the Borough allocation and also what money it was anticipated could be raised by local effort.
