THEFT OF SADDLE

ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT

One month's- imprisonment was imposed by the Whakatane Court on Thomas Henry Carmichael on Friday for the theft of a riding saddle valued at £10, the property of Alfred Herbert Werner. The offence was alleged to have taken place at Tc Teko, on or about June 1. Accused pleaded guilty and elected summary trial. Messrs. G. A. Brabant and C. H. -were on the Bench. For the police Sergeant Farrell stated that accused had borrowed the saddle from the owner sold it and kept the money. The Justices commented on the fact that it was a serious type of offence, and taking into account his list of previous convictions accused deserved severe punishment. Sentence was passed' as with an order for restitution of the amount of £10 the value of the £ 5 •saddle.
