CLASS WAIMANA HERD
A clearing sale was held at Waimana on 18th instant of one of the highest producing herds of the diswhen Dalgety and Co. Ltd. in conjunction with the N.Z. Loan and; Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. offered at auction the complete herd belonging to Mr E. P. Woolfield. As was to be expected the sale created a large amount of interest among dairy farmers, who were present in good numbers from the Opor tiki Whakatane and Waimana disI tricts. There was. spirited, competition throughout particularly for the cows which had produced under test 4001bs of blutterfat and over top price for the sale being £25 10s realised for a cow which had produced 478 ibs of butterfat in 287 days. Other cows which had given 4001bs of butterfat and over nfade from £20 upwards a number being sold for prices in the vicinity of £22 and £2:5. Other high producing cows changed hands at from £17 ;>s to £20, and the whole of the cows averaged the satisfactory figure of £18. The heifers offered were also a particularly god line top price for these being £19 10s the majority selling for from £13 to £19 and the average for the lin including a number of late calvers was £12 10s. Forward store pigs realised £3 and small stores £2 7s. A small quantity of sundries was offered and these sold at full market rates. The prices realised at this sale have set a high record for the district .and even allowing for the. quality of the stock offered must be regarded as satisfactory.
