OF recent months there has been considerable discussion at the meeting* table, of a certain local body of this district anent the publicity of numerous matters of a controversial nature which have been handled in debate. Indirect accusations by members both at the meetings and outside, may have led the public to assume that the press is at faultIf this impression has gone abroad we feel that we should hasten to point out that whilst we use our discretion in the matter of personalities and of possible libel, we have a duty to our readers as ratepayers to reflect as nearly as possible the trend of the sometimes extremely delicate arguments which usually take up 75vper cent, of the deliberations. The. duty® of weeding out the Unwanted' or 'undesirable' passages is not ours* but rather one imposed by constitutional conduct of debate on the individual members of the local body itself. They hold the cure themselves and are backed by all the accepted forces of law and order in carrying it out. Why can't they ?
