Notice of a question relating to the price of tyres was given in the House of Representatives by Mr W. Sullivan (National Bay of Plenty). Mr Sullivan asked the Minister of Supply whether his attention had been drawn to an article published in the February-March issue of the ''Transport News" which stated that 32 x 6 tyres, retailed at £S 38s 3d in Australia and £24 5s in New Zea-: land. Likewise a 34 x 7 tyre retailed at £11 2s 4d in Australia and £32 14s in New Zealand. As the Government was the merchandiser of tyres in New Zealand the price having been fixed by the Price Tribunal, would the Minister make a full statement explaining this disparity in which price seriously affected operators' costs? Fertiliser Supplies A new phosphatic fertilise control order just ga'/etted.' dispenses with the special per cow allocation for dairy farmers authorised by the 1944. order. In its place provision has been made for a general in-i allocations of phosphatic fertiliser to all farmers for topdressing equivalent to 42 per cent, of the average, annual quantity of superphosphate used for topdressing during the two-year base period ended May 1944- Announcing this, the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. 13. Roberts) said the allocation for wheat grown in the South Island had also been increase ed from lewt to 1 Mewl per acre.
