REHABILITATION
TRAINING Efc-SERVICEMEN
CARPENTRY AND KINDRED TRADES
Since April of last year ex-service-men trained by the Rehabilitation Department at their trade training centres have built 175 houses and are at present engaged in the construction of 131 more. The annual output aimed at is 1100 houses, Avhich it is expected will substantially contribute towards relieving the Dominion-Avide housing shortage. This target of course, depends on materials being available and it is hoped by the department that it Avill be achieved Avhen the training plans are in full swing. At the moment there are 717 exservicemen , engaged in full-time training at the department's centres. Of these 680 are carpenters, nine are bricklayers 14 are plasterers and 14 rooftilers though it is hoped to extend the last thee trades to include centres in other cities.. Exservicemen Avho have completed training include 370 107 fitters and turners and 112 welders. In addition to these a number of civilians Avere trained in the centres before they Avere taken over for rehabilitation purposes. These numbered 204 carpenters and 74 welders. Training on a subsidised basis Avith private employers are 720 exservicemen Avhile 65 have completed training under this system.
