McCready at the Whakatane Hospital Board last Thursday thai the previous decision to grant the medical supervisor an increase in salary be rescinded lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr McCready, whe spoke to the motion contended tl|at there was no justification for the rise in question and that in considering all matters at present connected with the institution there should be a limit to what the Board granted in the way of salaries. Unsuitable Game Bird 1 When a suggestion was made at a meeting of the council of tke Auckland Acclimatisation Society that guinea fowl should be acquired as sporting birds for breeding and liberation, the president, Mr F. E. McKcnzie stated that he had shot 9 guinea fowl in Africa. They were good eating but slow in. flight and soon settled after being flushed. Hospital Staff Difficulties "I wish to bring to the notice of the Board the conditions under which the staff is called upon to operate at the present time. During the. process of the building operations I can only say that they are having the utmost difficulty in coping with the requirements of the institution. I think that at our meetings, our observations should be aimed. to give encouragement and assistance to staff members wherever we can." Mr L. Pension Payment Notice In order to relieve congestion at the Post Office Age Benefits will in future be paid two full days before the ordinary pension day. The latter on the 23r.d of each month. Therefore when this day falls on an ordinary week day (omitting Saturday), the Age Benefit payment will commence on the 21st. When the ordinary pension day falls during the weekend necessitating payment of other bene- , fits on the previous Friday, the Age ' Benefit day is put forward two days to the preceding Wednesday. Furthermore when the 23rd falls on a Monday, Age Benefits can be collected on the previous Thursday and when the 23rd is a Tuesday s Age Benefits afe payable from the pre- j ceding Friday. Age beneficiaries are asked to make use of these two days j set aside for them and avoid undue delay at the Post Office. '
