GAY OTAKIRI EVENING

SUCCESSFUL "YANKEE'' NIGIIT

The 'Yankee' dnnee organised b> the Otakiri Patriotic Committee or July tlie Eve of "American Independence" Day, was an outstanding success. This committee, never fails to bring to light original ideas and on this particular night the dancing patrons who had travelled far and near ? Ave re well catered for. Bright music was .supplied by the Rhythm Vendors and extras by Mrs Arm--strong. Mr Lord } in his usual efficient manner carried through the ; American programme to the amusement of all. Those avlio could not dance the Honolulu Foxtrot tried out the Boston Tavo Step ? Missouri Waltz etc. Novelty dances as usual Averc popular and although the. Jitterbug contest did. not take, the v waltzing competition AA'hich AA'as put on in its place ; drew a crowded door. Mr and Mrs L. Perkins being tile Avinners. of the Guinea Prize l'or this event.. Mr Dunning donated another special prize to the only couple who took the lloor l'or the Jitterbug. The "Aniversary" Waltz was announced on the stroke of midnight. The special Coconut Grove Monte Carlo was Avon by Miss Gilbert and Mr G. Caullield. During the evening Tojo received rough handling by the anti-Jap dart thro , wers i Mr F. Missen handing out the necessary ammunition to the eager recruits. An attractive "Snack Bar" at Avhich piping hot .soup American savouries coffee etc. could be had throughout the evening, proved a very popular feature. Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Cristall did good the soup being « a popular "Snack." Hot savaloys j potatoes and other good things were served at supper time. ' The "Anniversary" cake, donated by Mrs K. King Avas; won by K. Armstrong, and Alan Armstrong Avas the lucky winner of the turkey donated by Mrs F. Mayo. The committee express grateful thanks to all those faithful supporters for cash and other donations which helped so much towards the success of the evening.
