BUILDING REGULATIONS
LOCAL POWERS OPPOSED
CONTROLLER'S FIRM STAND
The suggestion from the Borough Council that in certain special cases the right to issue building permits be vested in the local authorities has been firmly negatived by the Building Controller who stated in a letter received' last Monday evening by the Council that such authority would not make for a uniformity of policy. The Controller stated further that control mu.st be centralised in order that the ■ prescribed regulations should lie carried out and until such time as the quantity ol" material improved no easement could be given to any specific body in fairness to the country as a whole. "L fail to see that there is any uniformity of declared His Worship the Mayor when the letter had been read. "We know that the Building Controller in Auckland has quite different ideas to the Controller in Hamilton. There are no reasons why we- should not have power to issue permits in special circumstances."
