AMENDMENTS TO RULES
RELATION TO PARENT BODY At the meeting of the Provincial Council of the N.Z. Farmers' Union held at Hamilton considerable discussion took place regarding amendments to the rules of the Pri- J mary Producers' Co-operative Society Ltd. These were fully explained to the meeting by the chair- : man. Mr R. 11. Blade and amplified by Mr A. C. A. Sexton. It was considered that a measure of control should be retained by the New Zealand Farmers' Union (Auckland Province) which had sponsored the Society in the first place and was still giving substantial assistance. Members were unanimous that the Union was entitled to safeguard its interests and to ensure that the principles which had led to the formation of the Society were maintained. This issue was involved in the following resolutions which were carried: — "That the directorate be increased from 7 to 9 of which 5 shall come from nominations of the Union Executive. This Executive is to be asked to nominate double the number required for its representation the Societv to make from these its own selection at annual meeting. Another resolution provided that no further alteration to the rules of the Society be made for a period of 10 -years except by consent of the Auckland Executive unless such alterations arc carried by not less than 75 per cent, majority of a general meeting of shareholders. Mr ISelton reported that a committee had already be6n formed in Taranaki to join the Society and the chairman said 'there yvcre indications of definite support from several other districts at present outside the sphere of operations. The new rules make provision for areas that may lie established outside the Auckland Province to have repre-. sentation on the directorate. The constitution as amended provides for members' representation at the annual meetings of the Society on the basis of one delegate for each 100 members: in the various areas yvhich are to be defined. New Officers E|ected The election of directors for the current year resulted as folloyvs:— Messrs R. R. Blade A. E. Bryant. (Te A\vamutu) } E. Palliser (Waihou), A. McConaughy (Paparoa)? A. C. A. Sexton (Auckland) j A. H. Coombe (Springdale) 5 A. C. Harrison (Tauranga) and J. H. Fur-tl niss (Huntly) the last mentioned to be co-opted. j At the conclusion of business Mr ! R. Young and several members eulogised the work of the chairman and congratulated the directors on the results disclosed. On; the motion of Mr Young a resolution was carried expressing appreciation of the work of the directors and staff. In teply to a question Mr Blade said it was the desire of the Board as: soon as 9 conditions rendered it practical to evolve a scheme whereby the staff would lie placed on a profit-sharing basis in the Society.
