AID TO WOMEN
ACTIVITIES OF DIVISION GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE The Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union has been approached by the Government with a view to taking over the housekeeping scheme sponsored by the Division. Financial assistance to the extent of 5/- in the £ on any deficiencies was promised. The Division sought the advice of the Union on the matter and a deputation accordingly waited upon members of the Auckland Executive on May 28. The executive advised favourably on the scheme provided full control w r as retained. There was also discussion on a proposal that a hostel for wo- j men from farms should be established. When these matters were discussed at last meeting of the Auckland executive on Jane 20 f Mr A., Mel Conaughy spoke strongly regarding the necessity of a Rest House for the wives of farmers. This, he said, should be situated within Auckland city or suburbs so that a complete I change from the daily grind and surroundings of country life could be provided for women who in many cases had worked to breakdown point. ■
