TARANAKI & WAIKATO SERIES AUSTRALIAN BREEDERS AGAIN OPERATE In the first fortnight of the annual winter series of Jersey Sales which commenced recently in Tarana'ki and is now proceeding in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty representatives of every part of the Dominion are in attendance. Australian are also again participating. The auctioneers, Messrs Wright. Stexihenson and Co. Ltd. summarise the first portion of their great series of 3(5 of these sales:— The Taranaki series held in conjunction with Messrs Newton King Ltd. and re-established after u lapse of several years were notably successful. At Mr W. J. Freeth's first annual sale of Ngahiwi Jer.seys/ 38 rising 2 year old. heifers averaged 501-2 guineas 5 two year old bulls averaged 74*2 guineas, and 17 lising yearling bulls averaged 15 a total of 3056 guineas for <i 0 head. Mr C. J,. Hawken, Mokoia paid guineas for Ngahiwi King Bellboy a 3'earling son 0/ Ngahiwi Major Silver King from Ngahiwi Belladonna (51 Gibs fat G.T.T. and Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., as agents paid 100 guineas for Ngahiwi Sybil's Rosette a rising 2 year old daughter of the same sire from Ngahiwi Design's Rosette, by Design's. Noble Jester (imp). At'the New Plymouth Jersey Club Sale following, 29 incalf heifers averaged 55 guineas, and 30 rising yearling heifers averaged 23 guineas, a total of 2300 guineas for 50 head. Messrs A G. Col-son and Son;-' of Bell Block topped the sale at 120 guineas with the two year old heil'er, Glenara Magdaline, a daughter of the imported sire,, Nuriel's Dreaming Royalist the purchaser being Mr J. D. McKay Waihou. Seven daughters of this imported sire averaged (>(>% guineas. A nine months old heifer Mentonc Daisy Dell, topped the younger section. at guineas, the purchaser being Mr E. Ridgely, Waiuku. At the Holly Oak Sale top price of 100 guineas was paid for Holly Oak Hopeful, a six year old daugh- 1 ter of Holly Oak Earl. Big Offering -at Tamaki At the dispersal sale of Mr C. J. Lovegrove's Tamaki Stud, 203 head were disposed of in the day for 7914 guineas a triumph of organisation on the part of the auctioneers. Top price at auction was 400 guineaspaid by Mr F. Hickinbotham Kuraeu for the rising six year old bull, Fillpail Bright Blonde, (imp). Sold privately after the sale for 450 guineas, the eight year old Lobelia Palantine Sultan (imp) ' Avas secured by Messrs Boon and Berg of Whakatane. He is on the verge of qualifying as a C.8.8. Top price for females was 200 guineas paid bj r Mr W. T. Lux ton of Matangi for Ashvale Dreaming Stella, C.H.C. 8151bs fat ; a daughter of Meon Lion' while Mr A. E. Watkin. Pukskohe' paid MO guineas for Tamaki Heather Supreme, V.H.C. 6831b s fat.' 113 cows averaged 3(5 guineas, 23 two \ ear old heifers' guineas "■'9 yearling heifers 24. guineas 12 2y ear bulls, 30 guineas 22 yearling bulls 12 guineas. Two of the latter* both sons of Lobelia Palantine Sultan (imp) were sold to Australian buyers at 100 guineas a piece but the top price was 130 guineas paid for a third son by Mr Hickinbotham for Tamaki Palantine Gaiety dam's record (>B3l bs fat at 3 years.' Two small sales held on behalf of Messiw Alexander and Schroder and Mrs F. Upton were both successful. The former breeders sold 38 head for 1375% guineas, an average of 36 guineas. Top price was 180 guineas for the rising 4 year old cow O.K. fiancliise Dazzle, by Franchise ' White Aim (imp) paid by Mr A. A. , Pyle, Ruakaka, Whangarci. At Mrs Upton's sale a satisfactory realisation was 7 cows making the splendid average of 71 guineas, top price of 115 guineas being paid by Mr R. L. Waiuku for Oaklea Diamond Lady H.G.' C.O.R. I)slibs fat a 4 j*ear old daughter by Bcaulieu Sundown C.8.8. } while a full sister in Oaklea Diamond Queen went to the same buyer at 100 guineas. Three two year heifers averaged 48 guineas « and 4 yearling heifers, 27 guineas. At the annual sale of Pukeroa

Jerseys for Mr F. Gcck 24 cows averaged 22*2 guineas, top price of 7254 guineas being paiil by Mr A. B. Levy, Huapai for Pukeroa Winsome a 4 year old daughter of imported Franchise Wonderful Ai m ; Junr., and Pukeroa Winnie If. C., O.H.T. 5331bs fat. The in calf heifers realised up to 30 guineas paid lor a daughter of Gamboge Flashlight and yearling heifers went at up to- 21 guineas. Six yearling bulls averaged 3S guineas top price being 54 guineas for a son of Gauntlet Oxford Design (imp). Show Quality Makes Top Prices At tlie. dispersal of the high quality, but small Bel ford herd of Mr J. E. Parsons' Mnnawaru a def ' 1110nstration of the demand for show winning stock was indicated by the keen bidding for the star lots. Belford Sybil Jewel the notable prize winning yearling heifer of the past season and a daughter of Bell'ord Gamboge Recruit made top price of 375 guineas. She shows every indication of continuing her show record as a two year old and was purchased for a local breeder by Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd., as,agents. Her dam_ Bell'ord Twvlish Lass, V.H.G., G.H.T. 8501bs fat, another splendid type made 300 guineas falling to the bir of Mrs J. N. Hi'kutaia. Seven females in all made three figures 19 cows averaging 79*<> guineas, 9 in-calf heifers 79 guineas, 9 yearling heifers 33 guineas and 9 bulls 40 1 /2 guineas. Mr W. W. Dunn Waihou also had 10 9 in-calf heifers catalogued which made an average of 42 guineas j with top prices of 71 guineas and 70 guineas for a daughter and granddaughter of Premier loyal Colours, C.8.8. Bidding was not particularly spirited at the dispersal sale of the Tolgart.li Stud on acount of Messrs H. H. Sutton and Sons Tauwhare who refused good offers for many lots. Of 39 lots sold, 37 cows averaged 55 x /2 guineas. The star lot of the sale was the show heil'cr Tolgarth Emma C .O.K. 3461bs fat passed at 310 guineas. Next highest price was 200 guineas paid by Mr W. S. McEwen Cambridge for the H.C, cow Tolgarth Golden Maize, another 130 guineas, each was paid for two lots Tolgarth Deanna V.H.C. bought by Messrs Boon and Berg Whakatane and Tolgarth Golden Lois H.C. by Mr L.
