"BALLAD ON HEAT"

Our heaters they ilo not. now woik, Although they do exist. Our lira ins ure numbed by freezing cold ? So to this ballad list. As you all know the '"Regent" has,, Central heating fine, But poor old W.D.H.S. Of heating has no sign. We'll strike within a month, If something is not done, For we are sick of being cold, And having bodies numb. It is so cold our noses run From morn till afternoon. From aches and pains wc will not work, If something's not done soon. Dear people please do lend a hand Before it is too late. Or you'll have to bury one and all, Inside the graveyard gate. Yours; etc., W.D.H.S. SUFFERERS. Si r —Members, of the School Committee are very anxious, over the unfoilunate position which has- aris~en at the High School through the lack of heating facilities. A boiler j was .severely damaged some time ago and to obviate the very position which has now arisen, active steps were taken by the committee last February when representatives of the manufacturers came from Auckland to inspect and report on its; condition to the Auckland Education Board. In March the Board was; asked to expedite the. work and later the committee w T as advised that the manufacturers had promised to complete it during the last term holidays. Unfortunately, they did not keep their promise. The committee has written and telephoned the Board on several occasions since and has now been informed that a man will arrive this week to effect the necessary repairs. It can be assumed that the delay is due to the general shortage of labour prevalent today. I can assure parents, teachers and pupils that everything possible is ' being done to rectify the position as speedily as possible. Since writing the above I have been informed that the boiler was so badly damaged that several sections had to be imported from England. These with the exception of one which was short-shipped from Auckland, have now arrived at the school. The necessary repairs will lie effected this week when the heating system will be restored.

Yours etc., J. W. WILSON Chairman > School Committee.
