HOSPITAL PAY

TWO DAY HOLIDAY ECHO OF V-E DAY Tn accordance wcith the recommendation of the Finance Committee the Whakatane Hospital Board yesterday decided to pay members of the local hospital staff who were unable to take the two days holiday marking V-E vacation, the equivalent in holiday pay. Before the motion was carried Mr C. H. McCready had some critical observations to make but finally acquiesced by remarking drily: "Oh well let it go! The sooner the smash comes the better. The farmers can't do this sort of but they have got to pay for it all the same. It's a scandal!" The chairman (Mr L. Buddie): It's no fault of the Board's. The Government dictated the holiday and we simply had to grant it! Mr McCready: That's alright and as long as we're a group of yes-men it will go on. Nothing will stop it until someone stands out against it and does something.
