HIGH STOCK VALUES
KEEN COMPETITION SHOWN At the sale of two year in-calf dairy heil'ers lielc'l at Whakatane on Friday June 1 on account of Messrs Sax Bros, and Mr T. W. Burke, there was exceptionally keen competition for Messrs Sax Bros' line. The top price for one heifer was £31, the highest priced ten averaging £27 lis and the whole Jine of twentysix averaging £21 9s 3d. These heifers were an outstanding line, being well growN, in excellent condition and bred l'rom one of the highest producing herds> in the Bay, the herd average this season from 115 cows being 365 lbs butterfat. The heifers from this high producing herd Were sired by bulls purchased from Mr J. S. Rae's Raeburn Stud at Taneatua and practically the whole herd has been bred 1 from bulls selected from this stud over a period of years. One of the main features of Messrs Sax Bros' herd is the longevity of some of the cows-—ranging up to 16 years of age and in rank as top producers of the herd. The sale was conducted by Messrs Stephenson and Co. } Ltd.
