AWAKERI MEETING The May meeting of the AAvalieri branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Awakeri Hall recently Mrs E. C. Haultain presiding. Winners of the points prizes in last year's competitions were JSlrs McKenzie (oopts) 1; Mrs Barr (43) 2; Mrs Brizzle (42) 3. Mrs Brizzle. was elected as our delegate at the July Conference in Wellington. Members were reminded of the Adult Education Winter School at Tauranga from June 4th to June Bth. Beginning on June lltli for a week at Te Teko, members were urged to attend a series of W.E.A. lectures by Miss E. Smith whose subject is literature and by Miss MacMillan a Domestic Science In--3 ■structress. It was decided to write to the Minister of Railways and to the Member for the Bay "of Plenty asking for an extension, of and cover for the station platform at Edgecumbe, more adequate lighting of stations, and. that trains wait sufficient time at smaller stations for passengers with children and luggage to get on or olf. A much appreciated demonstration in smocking was given by Mrs E. C. Haultain who thoughtfully provided ready stamped pieces of material to members were soon busy practising stitches with enthusiasm. She was given a hearty vote of thanks. Results of the day's competitions were: —Best flower: Mrs Roberts 1; Mrs Wilson 2; Mrs McKenzie 3. Best fruit: Mrs E. C. Haultain 1; Mrs Brizzle 2; Mrs, McKenzie 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Brizzle 1; Mrs Roberts 2: Mrs Wilson 3.
