1945 VICTORY LOAN
DISTRICT RESPONSE STILL POOR We regret to have to report that despite the lamentable figures pub--fished by this journal last week the district respon.se still lags. Although the Thames-Bay of Plenty district has contributed 52 per cent of its quota our district has assisted to the extent of 18 per cent only, represented by 51 subscribers. It must he remembered that NewZealand has to pay feed and equip its soldiers and the money to do so can only he obtained from the people by way of taxation or loans. Both avenues play their the former eompulsorily and the latter voluntarily. It is the duty of everyone with their individual means to invest in the Loan as a material contribution to the Avar effort. In order to help it is only necessary to have a spare pound with which to buy a National Saving Bond or open a National Savings Account at the Post Office. It is stressed that it is not necessary to call . personally at a B"ank or Post Office to invest in the Loan. All Bank customers and Post Office depositors are in possession of the necessary forms to enable them to do so by completing and forwarding them by post. The district quota amounts to £71,543, made up as follows:— Taneatua £9 f 797
Te Teko £3,485 Matata £2,929 Whakatane £55,332 Progress to Date Stock— Whakatane £770 Taneatua £100 Te Teko £1200 Matata £300 Natl. Savs. Bonds— Whakatane £312 Taneatua £435 Te Teko — Matata *5 Natl. Savs. Ac. — Whakatane £2042 Taneatua £79 Te Teko £333 Matata ' ' £158
