PATRIOTIC MEETING
LARGE NUMBER OF ENTRIES With large numbers of entries submitted for all events and arrangements having been made to run bus services for the convenience of patrons the Edgecumbe Patriotic Race Meeting, to be held on the King's Birthday, June at the Te Teko Domain is expected' to be one of the most successful fixtures the district has seen for many months. The last, race meeting was held in 1934 and this will be the first perhaps iy the history of the club to have its proceeds devoted entirely to patriotic purposes. From the time the idea was proposed there was no lack of offers to assist. Te Puke and Rotorua Racing Clubs are lending equipment for the day ? whilst interested jDersons in both the.se districts are giving their support in every way possible. The race track is in very good order and punters will be. well catered lor. In anticipation of a large attend* anee, the committee have made full provision for refreshments. Each Grandmother will conduct a stall } which should prove popular with coupon savers and it is expected no shortage will exist in supplies of cakes, poultry—cooked and uncooked —and those things that attract the good buyer. There are to be .side shows competitions and other attractions.
In the latest voting figures avail-, able, the Farmers. Grandmother shows a substantial lead and some opinions believe this candidate to be the favourite. It is known however, that many votes are yet to come, in for the other candidates and 111111our lias it that the Services Grand--, mother could reduce the lead at any time. The other two candidates, show no appreciable change, at this time but it is confidently expected that more of their true form will be revealed on Monday. ; Latest voting figures are as foN lows:— Farmers Grandmother .. 12 ? 390 Services Grandmother .. Industries Grandmother . 8,808 Sharemilkers Grandmother 7,40(5 New arrangements have been made for the holding of the Derby Ball which was to have, taken place in tlie Winter Show Buildings on tae night of the King's Birthday. This will 'now be held at Edgecumbe and a bus will leave the Rock at T. 45 p.m. On this night the results of the Grandmothers' Derby will be iwinounced and patrons are guaranteed a thoroughly enjoyable night » u.
