BANK PROFITS
I Sir^ —In your issue of Friday last under the heading "Blood Money" a statement attributed to R. Danks was made that since the war com-? menced the nine banks trading in Australia had made profits amounting to 170 millions. This is obviously incorrect and grossly misleading } as according to the Commonwealth Bank statistics, the nine trading banks for the year 1944 earned profits of £1,975,000 equal to 3.6 p.c. on shareholders funds. If Mr Banks' statement on this matter is in line with his other utvery little reliance can be placed on his statements. Yours etc. STERLING.
