Poor District Response to 'Victory Loan Appeal

Although reports continue to be published of steadily mounting district percentages in subscriptions to the 1945 Victory Loan, the Beacon has the unhappy duty of publishing figures which reveal an almost complete disinterest in the Whakatane district. It is not to the credit of this community that since the Loan opened only 14 people have so far invested in Stock and 11 in National Savings Bonds out of a total estimated population of 10,000 in the Lpan district. With a total subscription to date in Stock, National Savings Bonds and National Savings Accounts of £5338, the Whakatane district has contributed exactly per cent, of the quota expected from it as its share in the national effort. IS THIS THE BEST THE DISTRICT CAN DO?
