STAFF WAGES
QUESTION OF SALARIED OFFICERS
BOROUGH AND COUNTY
A question which has been exercising both the Borough and the County Councils recently has been the -steady rise in wages which has been awarded' the union workers employed on their staffs as compared with the remuneration received) by their executive officers who not being protected by have in many instances been accorded little or no recognition over the whole of the period.
Both local bodies at their last meetings decided to meet the position by 'instituting increases commensurate with the recent Government salary increases. The Borough Council decided that in view of an estimated increase for all union workers on the staff of 12% per oent } that subject to the approval of the Wage Commissioner the salaries of the executive staff {Foreman Engineer Electrical Engineer and tiie Town Clerk) be 'increased by 10 per cent.

The County Council decidcd that the County Engineer and County Clerk be granted salary increases in accordance with the rccent Government salary increases viz., £75 each ? making the respective salaries £638 (includes £13 cost of living bonus) and £588 (includes £13 cost of living bonus) —that Lands and Survey Department recommendation in regard to salary of Collector of Native rates be adopted viz. salary £364 per an- ] num (includes £24 cost of living! bonus) —that salary of Inspector and Ranger be £405 per annum (includes £13 cost of living bonus) uniform allowance, to be £20 additional —that Inspector be permitted to earn up to £25 per annum overtime —that Assistant County Clerk's salary be £410 per annum (includes £13 cost of living bonus) —that Assistant County Clerk b,> permitted to earn £20 per annum overtime —that increases date from the Ist April ? 1945.
