M.r and Mrs F. Patience have left for Waihi where Mr Patience will take up his new appointment as headmaster Waihi South School. 3 Mr J. Love has had word to say that his brother Mr T. Love a for-> 9 9 mer resident of Wliakatane district, who has been a prisoner of war for three years is, now safe in England. Mr and Mrs W. Stanaway of Ponsonbv Auckland, are at present spending a week's holiday in Whakatane. They arc staying with Mr and Mrs J. Love of Anzac Avenue.

Mrs W. G. Hancock of Whaka•9 tane, ha& received word to the effect that her husband Sapper W. G. Hancock who has been a prisoner of war in Germany for three and a half years is now safe in England.

Due to war-time shortage of staff, the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture has not been represented in Whakatane for several years but with the recent return of some from overseas this is being rectified. Mr E. R. Marryatt has been appointed to this district and is re-opening" an "office in the Commercial Chambers next to the Native Department's office.

Lieut. 11. L. Heatley of the Public Relations Staff and lor two years editor of the N.Z.E.F. Times, has returned to New Zealand on furlough and is at present staying with his wife at Air and Mrs G. R. Kent's Hillcrcst„ Lieutenant Heatley will lie remembered as a popular member of the literary staff of the Beacon prior to his enlistment for overseas service. He intends spending about two weeks in AVhaJw'itane.
