OTAKIRI MEETING HELD
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GATHERING
The birthday meeting o,f the Otakiri Women's Institute was held at tlie Olakiri Ilall president Mrs Armstrong taking the ehair r and there were 27 members and guests from Sister Institutes present. The firts business was the reading of the delegate's report of the an-* nual l-Yderation meeting and the welcoming of two new Mrs Newman and Mrs A. McLean. Tlie Roll Call, "Suggestions for Improvement of Eisteddfod," brought forth some good ideas to send forward to the Federation. A delightful musical interlude "All in an April Evening" was, rendered by a sextet, from the recently formed Musical Circle. Mrs Carr delighted with her reading of the poem "Spring" which won first place at the Eisteddof being Mrs Carr's own composition. Mrs Peek was at her best in the elocution items which she so ably rendered. Mrs Armstrong and Dawn Armstrong >:ang a duet "O, Rise (> Sun" and responded to the demand for more with ' ; I Walked Beside You." A wall competition entitled Kitchen Utensils was won by Mrs Carr. A 'Mime' a play without words was so graphically portrayed that it left the audience weak with laughter and left our correspondent with a feeling that there, is talent here for more displays of a similar type. This month 'Mother's Day' is held and Mrs G. Murray* was presented with a shoulder spray as the mother of the Institute. Spray& were also presented to all foundation members present. A shoulder spray was presented to Mrs Lc Leivrc the newEastern Bay of Plenty Federation President also to Mrs Withy ? the Voluntary Organiser.
The birthday cake hold fifteen candles -which -were lit by Mrs G. Murray. Mrs Withy blew them out ? and Mrs Le Leivre cut the cake. Mrs Armstrong gave .special thanks to Mrs. Missen for baking .such a beautiful cakc ;< and Mrs Peck for all -the beautiful 'floral tributes.
Mrs Pryor spoke on behalf of the Te Teko Women's Division of the Farmers' Union expressing thanks, for the enjoyable afternoon and extending an invitation to the Te Teko meetings. Mrs Le Leivre gave thanks on behalf of tlie guests for a very enjoyable afternoon. Mrs Withy acted as judge for the afternoon and praised all the entries, in the. competitions which were as under:—A bowl of flowers for effect: Mrs_ CI. Murray 1; Mrs W. Murray 2: Mrs Armi strong 3. Lemon honey: Mrs Missen 1; Mrs Winters 2; Mrs Woods 3. Original verse entitled 'Mother': Mrs Jessup: Mrs W. Mayo 2; Mrs Carr 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs Missen 2: Mrs. Winters 3. Best flower: Mrs Armstrong 1; Mrs Missen 2; Mrs W. Murray 3. The stall -which was well stocked with all sorts of good things was a centre of interest and proved profitable. to the Institute .'"The bea'utiful felt bag and posy set Avas won by Mrs Major. After afternoon tea was served the meeting ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
