PATRIOTIC DANCE

CALEDONIAN SUCCESS Sponsored by the. Whakatane Caledonian Society, a successful dance in. aid of Patriotic funds was organised and run on Saturday evening in the Winter Show Buildings. A fairly good crowd was in attendance and dancers were not disappointed with the entertainment provided. Proceedings commenced early in he evening when the Tauranga Pipe Band paraded through the town to be followed a few minutes later by the Whakatane Band, and throughout the evening the whole atmosphere had a distinct Scottish tang. Kilts were apparently the orthodox drcss ; and the many wearers of this type of apparel lent to the floor while dancing was in progress bright splashes of colour. The hall itself was very nicely decorated with greenery and flags of the Allied Nations. The Premier Orchestra supplied the music while Mr Harry Mole performed the duties of M.C. Extras were, provided by tlie two Pipe their popularity being made even more apparent than usual by the large number of Scots - present. Items were supplied by Mr Bothwell and Miss Lorna Belve both of 9 Tauranga who obliged with demonstrations of Highland dancing while - a lively selection was also rendered by the Tauranga Band.
