PETROL SALES
FAILURE TO ACCOUNT MA TATA STATION PROPRIETOR Failure to obtain signatures for the sale of petrol drawn from his station at Matata y resulted in Anthony A. Kinley (proprietor) being prosecuted* by the police before Mr E. L. Walton, in the Whakatane Court last Tuesday. Sergeant Farrell said that the offences apparently occurred between
the Ist and 2nd of when discrepancies' were first noted and upon investigation by Inspector Dogge.tt, it was found that Kinley's books were in a hopeless muddle. In one instance it was admitted that, a contractor who regularly drew his petrol supplies from defendant's station took one lot of 80 gailons with out even signing lor it } because lie said 'lie was in a hurry.' The Sergeant added ,that Kinley was a mechanic and the work of regulating his 1 benzine sales had got beyond, liim. There had been no attempt to defraud in any shape* or form but he had endeavoured to carry on under difficulties. Observing that in view of the police evidence the penalty Avoukl not be. a severe one the magistrate inflicted a line of £'•$, and costs 255.
