Plunket Donation At its- last meeting of the Whakatanc County Council granted a donation of two guineas to the. Plunket Society. Whirinaki Bridge Approach The Whakatane County Council at the suggestion of Cr Cawtc has decided to take land under the Public Works Act for the Whirinaki bridge approach. Polish Children will not Arrive We have been asked by the Junior Red Cross of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation to notify those kind persons who were prepared to assist, in the billeting of twenty Polish Refugee children from Pahiatua in. the near that a letter has been received from the Camp authorities stating that unfortunately they will not be able to make the trip on this occasion. Later there is however every possibility. Patriotic Dance Tomorrow Residents are reminded of the special Patriotic dance promoted by j the Whakatane Caledonian Society to take place in the Winter Show Hall tomorrow evening. Patrons will have the pleasure of seeing the crack Tauranga Pipe Band in various displays together with the local senior and junior Pipe Bands and the Whakatane Boys' Band. Special surprise novelties are also to take place. Assist this great cause and enjoy yourselves at the same time. Stock Age«ts 'V' Day The staffs of the Stock and Station Agents' will be celebrating V day in the manner suggested by the Government. However, owing to the difficulties arising out of the handling of live stock in transit and the practicable impossibility of re-ar-ranging sale 1 dates, live stock auction sales including clearing sales a.s advertised and calendared will be held. Members of the staffs engaged on these sales during the celebration period will be granted an equivalent holiday.
