NEW CLUB FORMED

TE TEKO ENTERPRISE

Backed by a particularly able and live committee, the proposal which has been considered Tor some time to form a golf club at Te Teko appears to be well on the way to becoming a reality. Over fifty prospective members are. available and the elub will serve residents of Te Teko Onepu Otakiri j Edgecumbe j and outlying districts. To forward the proposals suggested, a meeting was held in the Te Teko Hall towards the end of last year; when prospects for the formation of the club were outlined. The great lack of recreational facilities at Te Teko were, pointed together with the advantages to the interest of young and old alike which would be present if the Golf Club were formed. The proposed site was the Te Teko Domain, where operations could be carried out at an initial cost much lower than is usually associated with such an undertaking. 'A sketch of the proposed course of ten holes showing greens and tees was inspected by Mr F. who is engaged in farming operations on the together with members of the Domain Board } and an assurance was j|iven that proceedings would in 110 way interfere with cither Mr Butler's farming work or other sporting activities- for which the Domain is at present used. It was also proposed that the necessary work in connection with greens etc. be carried out by working bees. A committee consisting of Mrs Craig, and Messrs D. Allen, R. W. Dunning, Mackin and A. P. Smith was then formed with instructions to enquire into the following questions: —■ 1. The suitability of the site and the number of holes. (Nine were suggested). '1, The position re tenure. 3. Canvassing for members. 4. Acquisition of the necessary implements. 5. The matter of affiliation with the N.Z. Golf Association. It was also instructed to discuss the proposal with the Domain Board. 1 The suggested membership fee was fixed at two guineas for adults and one guinea for players under 18 years of age. A number of donations were also generously offered in the event of the club being formed. A further meeting was held on March 27 when it was decided /"to form a golf club to be known as the Te Teko Golf Club. In accordance, it was also decided to apply to the Domain Board for a 10 years' lease of the property with right of renewal. The election of officers for the ensuing year, which then took place resulted as follows:— Patron: Mr W. Glen. Club Captain: Mr T. Mackir President: Mr L .B. Smith.
