HOSPITAL COMPLIINTS
Sir^ —Several comments of late have been made at the Hospital Board meetings in connection with complaints, but all have been of a ? very secluded nature. This is in compliance with all affairs of a local nature and I' might add of a national and international nature too. In other words we are very much unin fact it has become conventional and an accepted means of "pulling the wool over the public's eyes." One member of the Board re- , marked that "we must protect ourselves." Does this net also indicate that there is something to be protected from? There seems no reason why these complaints could not be made the complainants could be ptit on oath as a sign of their sincerity. The Board as well as the complainant would then have to bring forward its evidence in the proper manner and everything ♦!? would then be clear and above board. Secrecy only leaves itself open to much criticism and doubt and also to a spread of rumours which are. at all times to be treated with reserve. These rumours leave a taint of suspicion however which is only removed when a fresh supply of rumours comes along, and so the position- repeats itself until almost everyone is in a state, of confusion as to the truth. The Board would be doing itself as well as the public a favour if /f this method of open enquiry were and would also receive many congratulations. Yours etc. - J. DITCHFIELD.
