SUCCESSFUL ST. JOHN DANCE
NURSING EFFORT
The dance held under the auspices ol' the Waimana branch of the St. John's Nursing Division on Easter y Monday night, proved quite a success. The door takings were £15. Mr R. Morton acted as doorkeeper, whilst the duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Mr Angus. The dance music was supplied b3 r the Waimana Orchestra and an extra was contributed by Mr R. Bell. The Monte. Carlo Waltz was won by Miss: K. Doran and partner. The Monte Carlo for children was quite popular and was won by Doreen Hughes and Lena Boynton. After supper, Mr Carling, vicechairman of the Whakalane branch of St. John's, spoke of the work done in Waimana by the Nursing Division and the instruction given the jdinior pupils at First Aid classes. He mentioned especially Mrs Henderson and Mrs Wykle, and urged the younger members to carry on. He tnen called on Dr. Fletcher Cole to present First Aid certificates to the successful pupils. Dr. Cole expressed great pleasure in being able, to comc to Waimana' and urged the successful candidates to practise their! knowledge.
The following received the certificates: Gini, Joy, Lena and Ellen Boynton; Betty Brown; Beverley Henderson; Sophie Brown; Doreen Hughes; Delma Martin; Kay McDonald; Nola Rust; Lola Savage; Dora Wardlaw; Catherine Wardlaw; Joycelyn Wylde; Lionel Eagle: Earl Eagie; Fred Hughes; Bell Martin; Barry Stevenson; Doug Wardlaw; R. Wardlaw. Mr A. Bethellielm: Mr D. Boynton; Mr N. Clark; Mr M. Scott:; Mr D. Woolfield: Miss E. Miss J. Hodgson; Miss Z. White; Miss H. Woolfield; Mrs G. Mitchell; Mrs M. Cooper: Mrs H. Hamilton. Mrs H. Wardlaw on behalf of the first Division members asked Mr 3 | Carling to accept a gift, in appre. j ciation of his past live years of j teaching and instruction in First Aid in Waimana. Mr Carling thanked one. and ali for the gift which he said was greatly appreciated. He could honestly say Waimana had a creditable First Aid and Nursing Division and he wished them every success. . Tlie assembly .joined in singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
OVERSEAS MEN HONOURED
The opportunity was taken by Mr Ducker on behalf of the Waimana Patriotic Committee and all present, to present wallets and their contents, to Sgt. J. Donnelly, who is going overseas lor the third time, and to. Privates Hikcta " and Tewai Rua, who are also going overseas. The speaker wished them the best of luck and a safe return; and also welcomed W.O. Clark who had :9 been a prisoner ol' war for several years, and presented him with a cheque from all present. The guests brieflj' responded thanking one and all I'or the gifts and kind wishes. Dancing continued until a late hour.
