MEETING AT TANEATUA
Thc March meeting of the Tancatua Women's Institute was held in the Tancatua Hall, Mrs Gardner presiding over a good attendance. Mrs Mcars was welcomed as a new mem-
her and a welcome was also extended to Mrs Withy, V.O. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and remits for the annual Council meet-
ing discussed. Mrs Hayward and Mrs Adams were elected as delegates to the Council meeting in April.
The meeting then proceeded -with t]xe business of tile annual meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting Averc read and confirmed. Officers for 1945 were elected as follows: —President Mrs Gardner; viceMesdames Anderson and Grey; secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Merrie: Mesdames Kempton, Moore _ Semmens Peebles, Doran, Knowles and Miss Hills; press Mrs GaMner.
The secretary Mrs Moore, presented the annual report, which showed a very successful year, arid
the balance sheet. In moving the adoption of the annual report, Mrs Gardner thanked the. secretary and committee and all other members for their loyal support and co-opera-tion in the past year. Reports on the year's activities were given by
the convenors of the Gardening and Drama Circles. It was hoped to combine a Musical Circle with the Drama Circle in the coming year.
Mrs Withy gave an interesting and instructive address, including
he work of the various officers of
the' Institute. Lovely shouldersprays, the artistic work of Mrs Grey were presented to Mrs Withy, the president and Mrs Gardner, and the secretary,' Mrs Moore.
Results of competitions were:—
A Shortbread: Mrs Kempton 1; Mrs, Grey 2. B 3 potatoes,: Mrs Adams 1; Mrs Gardner 2. C ? Best flower: Mrs Havward 1; Mrs Grey 2. After a delicious afternoon tea 5 served by the committee, the meeting closed with the National Anthem. Gardening Circle The first annual meeting of the Gardening Circle A\as held at Mrs Hay ward's residence, Mrs Adams presiding. Mrs Hayward ay as elected president, and Mrs Grey .secretary, l'or the coming year. Prizes for the year were won by:— A Vegetables: Mrs, Adams 1; Mrs Doran 2. B, Flo Aver: Mrs Grey 1; Mrs Adams '2. C, Floral Arrangement: Mrs Grey 1", Mrs. Adams 2. A competition, jumbled names of flowers, Avas Avon by Mrs Gardner, j The 'monthly competitions result-ed:-—A Best vegetable: Mrs"'Hayward 1; Mrs Adams 2. B, Best flpjAVer: Mrs Hayward 1: Mrs. Adams. 2; Mrs Grey 3. C, Head ornament and armlet: Mrs Grey 1. After a delicious afternoon tea, the members strolled round the grounds* and admired the beautiful show of' flowers before the meeting closed. WHAKATANE MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute was held in the Methodist Hall on April Mrs Crozier presiding over a fair attend-, a nee of members. The meeting was opened with the Institute song. The Aspirations were then read. The business for the clay Avas the appointment of delegates- for District Federation Council Meeting, Mrs Crozier and Mrs Attwood being elected. Discussions on remits for Council meeting. Results of the Eisteddfod held in the Taneatua Hall on March 2(5 Whakatanc gaining most points for the day were read. A passion play was given by Mrs Appleb3' and was very much appreciated by all. A hymn was then sung by the Glee Circle. Winners for the points prizes for the year were: Class A, y Mrs. Larscn 1. Class B and C, Mrs Fennel! 1. Competitions for the day Avere: Bowl of autumn tints for Mrs Zinsli 1. Three Mrs Z * six 1; Mrs Matthews 2. Three potatoes, Mrs Fennell 1; Mrs Crozier 2. Afternoon tea brought the meeting to a close.
