ANNUAL MEETING

iNTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS

GOOD COMPETITION WITNESSED

Shortly before Easter the annual interschoo: athletic meeting was held at Tauranga, teams from that centre, Te Puke, and Whakatane

taking part

Owing to an unfortunate outbreak of scarlet lever the. team from Katikati was not allowed to travel, unci a previously arranged function at Opotiki meant that that school could not lie represented. Conse-

quently the sports were robbed of some of their usual interest. Howevei\ some lirst class performances were witnessed and a number of * ? records broken.

Tauranga District High School j this year has some outstanding athletes, boys and girls, one particularly impressive win being in the junior boys' sprint which their representative won by almost 10 yards. The middle and long distance races were won by correspondingly wide

margins.

One factor very much in their fav_ of course, is the existence in Tauranga of a strong Amateur Ath-; letic Club } which holds frequent meetings throughout the season providing an incentive to members to keep in training and also valuable experience in racing. Apparently a:so, tile Tauranga Borough Council takes an interest in outdoor sport anil maintains the Domain in good condition for cricket and athletics.
