PERFECT HOLIDAY WEATHER

PICNICKING CAMPING & SPORTS J

It is many years since such perfect weather has been experienced for Easter. The week-end just past possibly provides a record for the ideal holiday break. In common with the rest of the Dominion, Whakatane went out_of_doors with a venand picnicking and camping parties have returned this morning fully satisfied with the fine settled conditions which made their respective outings ideal in every respect. Ohope Beach saw one of the largest Easter crowds there in "Quite like old times," observed a resident to a BEACON representative in commenting on the large crowd which thronged the picnic grounds and strolled along the sands.. On Easter Monday the crowd was particularly dense ? and the beach bore an atmosphere reminiscent of Christmas. The Heads were also popular throughout the four day holiday and at all times large crowds, with children predominating were to be seen enjoying the sunshine and strolling along the. foreshore. Numerous camps were held throughout the district. There was the annual Easter Camp of the Presbyterian Bible Class at Ohope ? and an informal Guide Camp at Lake Rotoma j where also many Whakataneans spent the week-end. The two sports meetings Waimana on Saturday ? and Te Teko yesterday drew record crowds and in both instances (particularly so in Waimana's case) the sports reached a remarkable standard of. excellence. Fears that Gymkhanis as x means of raising Patriotic monies were not having tlie same success ns in the past were definitely exploded at the above two centres where the returns exceded Inst year's by a sub-<> stantial margin.,
