TROPHY PRESENTED
CEREMONY AT POROPORO
On Monday morning an interesting little ceremony took place at the Poroporo school when Keri Wano ) donor of the trophy lor Maori action songs and hakas at the recent kliana formerly handed over the much-coveted silver bowl to the leader of the winning team } Johnny Tunui. In doing so, Mr Wano said that he had been animated by a desire to see the traditional dances and songs of the old-time Maoris perpetuated in the schools of today. He hoped that the children would enjoy doing their performances and continue, to show an interest in traditional matters. Three things required the urgent attention of the Maoris today. Healthier conditions, education and improved housing. It was necessary to do something in all three departments in order to bring the race up to the same level as the pakelia. Mr M. Tatana gymkhana secretary. also spoke. Mr W. A. B. Goodwin briefly returned thanks on behalf of the children who later presented their trainer and coach, Mr T. Horopapara, with a momento of their good wishes.
