Parry, Ministei of Internal Affairs at Tuesday's sit. ting of the Committee of Enquiry, commended Mr J. L. Burnett, Chair man of the. Whakatane County Coun cil on his suggestion that the coun. cil might enlarge its scope by encouraging sport, and recreation ir the country districts. "It is the first time I have heard it mentioned by a delegate to the. Committee and 1 think you are to be congratulated " said the Minister. "You have all the powers you need to carry out such a policy under the Physical Welfare Act." No Special Trains No long distance special trains are to be run at Easter for holiday traffic. The Minister of Railways (the Hon. R. Semple) said he regretted very much the necessity for this decision, but the plain fact was that the Railway Department's stocks for heavy passenger traffic as well as for coal did not permit of catering for the movement of essential goods and livestock. The. Minister appealed to the public to refrain from unnecessary travel during Easter, so that the trains provided, would be available to those whose journeys were essential.
