INCIDENT IN STREET

£50 FINE IMPOSED An unusual charge against Joseph Plamus was preferred in the Whakatane Court last Wednesday morning when under Section 2 of the Gaming Act, accused was charged with loitering in the street for the purpose of betting. Messrs G. A. Brabant and J. J.P.s, presided. Sergeant Farre.ll stated that accused had been seen by the Police p!ac-« ing' a bet with a person in the. Strand on Tuesday. He had been intercepted and admitted tlie offence. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge and had nothing to say. Observing that under the Act he was liable to a line of upwards of the Bench stated that it viewed the ofTcnce seriously and counselled the accused to put an end to the practice. A fine of £50 was imposed.
