"THE SOUTH DOWNS"
The southern Downs of England Pride of Brittainias Isle; Whose white foundations firmly stand To guard our Anglo And cause her children's hearts to glow As homeward bound their f essels go To the birthplace of their Mother tongue Whose accents round the world are rung. The severed nations of mankind With good Avill and with peace to bind On the polling Downs in days of old— Roman's Saxons and Norman's, bold With possessive zeal inspired Fought for the land, their hearts desired. Their arms and bones may still be found Neath many a long forgotten mound. Among the hills and valleys fair Are castle ruins grim and. bare Reiics of England's feudal power When armoured Knighthood was in flower. From Beachv Head to Selsey Bill The beacon fires will blaze' until The last fight is for freedom won. Then all the world will see the sun Of peace on earth in splendour rise To bles the war worn nations eyes. Then all men everywhere will strive In peace and uYiity to live. H. SERGANT.
