'SHIP AHOY' SEQUEL

Sir s —Being mentioned in the columns of your Bay of Plenty Beacon on our first visit to your town was . ? J indeed an although it would appear that the writer of "Ship Ahoy" was not too pleased with our "pumping up" procedure. The. absence of a Petty Officer did not affect our work. The flat tyre was no problem and if we appeared to be slow the explanation is,, that we were trying to solve the problem of jrour tobacco shortage and this puzzle detracted us from our work. We sailors like our smokes } and we wonder what Captain Cook would say about his Bay of Pienty! The Navy lias the reputation for being ready in all emergencies and being aware that the rainfall was over 7 inches on the night, of. our arrival, a bucket was necessary to "bale out." We are sorry the writer of "Ship Ahoy" failed to see the anchor lashed on the port quarter. We would like to register our appreciation to the public of Thornton and district for the kind and hospitable way in we i two British sailors, have been received. Yours ctc. JAN HOCKING (Cornwall). SAMMY REDMOND (Dorset).
