STANLEY ROAD AGAIN

FLOODING COSTS £500

LATEST RIDING BILL

A recent cloudburst has caused extensive damage on Stanley Road throughout its full length. The estimated damage is £500. Numerous washouts have occurred and much metal lias been washed off the road. The road is open for traffic but some time will elapse before it is restored to its normal condition. This road has suffered a considerable amount of damage during the last 18 months, and the original culverts installed have failed to carry the excessive water. This- lias resulted in the blocking of culverts and the consequent flowing of flood waters down the steep grades causing washouts and loss of metal. The. only solution would appear to be the installation of larger and more culverts with stricter attention to keeping them open. Difficulty has been experienced in keeping a suitable -surfaceman on this length recently? being largely due to unsuitable accommodation, but this has now been improved. (County Engineer's report.)
