WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

TANEATUA MEETING The monthly meeting of the Tancatua Women's Institute was held on February 13 Mrs Gardner presiding over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the Institute song and the Aspirations which were read by Miss Hills. INI is Oden was welcomed as a new member. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence dealt with. Arrangements lor the forthcoming Eistedl'odd were made and an appeal for entries met with a good response. Mrs Grey was nominated for the executive committee of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women's Institutes. ! As Mrs Merrie i a vice president and one of the oldest members of the Institute is shortlv leaving the the president took the opportunity of farewelling her on behalf of the Institute. Mrs Merrie was presented with a shoulder spray i'ihl an Institute serviette, ring on behalr -of Hie members. In a few wel'-t bo-sen words, she returned thavd-s, and expressed her regret at leaving. The roll call "Suggestions for programme for coming year ? " met with response. Suggestions included requests for more hints on household affairs s and for more dra""V

matic and musical items. A wall competition "Nursery Rhymes" was won by Mrs Grey. Results of competitions Avere: — A ; Preserved peaches: Mrs Moore 1; Mrs Grey 2. B ; Jug cover, Mrs Merrie 1; Mrs Adams 2. G ( Best flower, Mrs Fox 1; Mrs Reid 2. After a delicious afternoon tea ? served by the hostesses Mesdames Adams and Menefy the meeting closed with the National Anthem. Gardening Circle, The January meeting of the Gardening Circle was. held at Mrs Grey's residence Mrs Adams presiding. An interesting tal'k on Asparagus-grow-ing and the culture of Iris KaempI'eri was given by Mrs Fit.chett } who also judged the competitions. A wall competition ay as won by Mrs Fitchett and Mrs Moore and a treasure hunt by Mrs Adams. Results of the monthly competitions were: A, Best A'egetable: Mrs Doran 1; Mrs Adams 2. B } Best flower: Mrs Adams 1; Mrs Moore 2; Mrs Grey 3. -C Best buttonhole: Mrs Grey 1; Mrs Adams 2; Mrs Moore 3. A delicious afternoon tea served 'bv the hostesses. Mesdames Doran J and Lawn, concluded the meeting.
